Professional Communication Skills for MBA Students

With an aim to develop professional communication skills, Masters of Business (MBA) third trimester students of Apex College organized ‘Workshop on Professional Communication Skills’ on 25 – 26 January, 2017. The event was held on seminar hall where 30 students from MBA third trimester participated.  Resource person Mr. Yogesh Satyal commenced the first day of the workshop with communication exercise. Accessing the exercise he said, ‘Success depends on the ability to communicate.’ Subsequently the participants performed impromptu speaking on the stage. They received feedback in terms of confidence, clarity and accuracy. Following up the session, the resource person highlighted importance of rapport building for MBA students. He introduced ‘Matching, Mirroring and Cross over Matching’ as part of Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques for rapport building.  On second session of day one, the participants involved into self-assessment of their listening skills.

On the second day of the workshop the students learned importance of giving and receiving feedback. Resource person Mr. Satyal discussed typical model of feedback in terms of sandwich model ‘Compliment, Feedback and Compliment.’ Afterwards, every participants put forward their 1 minute ‘Elevator Pitch’ to broaden networking opportunities. The resource person provided feedback in the grounds of effectiveness, fluency and warmth. In addition, intercultural aspects of communication was also discussed and demonstrated.  The participants also learned the ways of giving impactful presentations. In the end, ‘Tall Tale’ storytelling competition was held to enhance public speaking abilities. Among all the participants Mr Hitesh Dahal became winner of ‘Tall Tale’ competition. Evaluators also provided their comments to the competitors after observing the performance. Mr Yogesh Satyal complimented the participants’ effort and enthusiastic participation. Associate Director of MBA Morning Mr Kishore Dhungana addressed closing session and also distributed certificates to the participants. The workshop helped participants to enrich their professional communication skills.
